It was 1980 when our company was contacted by a local Architect who wanted us to come up with a rustic knotty material other than knotty pine for a home under construction in Sun Valley, Idaho. Interested in doors, windows, cabinets and trim, they were searching for a very distressed appearance in a light chestnut color. Soon after seeing a truckload of pallet stock on its way to a pallet factory, we knew we had found our special material. It was alder, full of cracks, large knots, bark and different grain character. After completing several samples of material and stain, a new look had arisen, and the craze had begun. Over 25 years later Northwest Door & Mill is the leading manufacturing company specializing in custom woodworking. Our manufacturing plant is located in Carey, Idaho and is equipped with the most advanced machinery available today.
